Bible study on Revelations ? The Antichrist’s henchmen

In the prophecy of Daniel 2, which portrays the succession of four world kingdoms, it is said that the fourth kingdom will be divided, and in the days of these kings God will set up a kingdom (vs 44). Similarly, a Bible study on Revelation will also show a countdown of events leading up to the end of the world.

For every kingdom there is a king set up over it. Thus the division of the fourth kingdom means that you will no longer have one supreme king, as in the case of Caesar, but a plurality of kings over the different kingdoms into which the fourth kingdom was splintered.

In your Bible study on Revelations 17, you will see how this divided fourth kingdom will position itself for the final conflict in the latter days.

In the end of the world countdown in both Daniel 2 and 7, you will see a scenario that can easily be traced from beginning to end. In tracking the fulfillment of this prophecy, you will see how one world kingdom succeeds the other in the following hierarchy:

HEAD OF GOLD – The kingdom of Babylon (606-538BC)

BREAST/ARMS OF SILVER – The kingdom of the Medes and Persians (538-331BC)

BELLY/THIGH OF BRASS – The kingdom of Greece (331- 168BC)

LEGS OF IRON – The kingdom of Rome (168BC-476AD)

FEET OF IRON/CLAY – The divided kingdom of Rome (476AD-Present)

Since the Gothic invasion of Rome prior to 476AD, Rome has lost much of her territories. But we must remember that the Bible says that in the feet of iron and clay remains “the strength of the iron” (Dan. 2:41), thus indicating that the iron kingdom will still have the upper hand in the world.

This will be the situation with the fourth kingdom in the last days when the beast ascends from the bottomless pit.

According to my Bible study of Revelations 17, the ten kings will reign during the same period with the beast (the antichrist) and they will give their kingdom to the beast. In handing over their kingdoms to the beast they will have pledged to become his henchmen to enforce his evil dictates in their respective territories.

Because the beast possesses supernatural powers, these kings will consider it appropriate for him to be given leadership of planet earth. However, something dramatic will happen that will cause these monarchs to turn against the beast and burn down the city of Rome. (Rev. 17:16, 17)

This viscious act on the part of these ten world leaders will be allowed by God as a visitation of punishment on both the woman and the beast for their part in leading the world into devil worship.

It is at that point in time that Christ will put in His appearance and begin to rule the planet with a rod of iron as King of kings and Lord of lords. A cursory Bible study on Revelations 19 will bear this out. In the end, these kings will be destroyed with the sword of Christ’s mouth, His people will be delivered, and as Daniel 7:22 says, “the time came that saints possessed the kingdom”.

Does a Bible study on Revelations have any bearing on your salvation?

It has become very fashionable for some Christians to suggest that Bible prophecy is really a non-essential and not necessary for us to understand. In other words, according to them, Bible study on Revelations is of no consequence to your salvation. But what is a salvational issue, by the way. Is it not about the gospel of Christ dying for us so that we might be saved through Him? Is it not about how God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son? And I say yes! That’s the core of the gospel message. That’s the sum-total of the message of salvation to be given to the world.

But how does a Bible study on Revelations 13, for example, detract from that message? The fact is, you cannot separate Bible prophecy from the gospel message. What this particular chapter actually does is to bring out the same gospel message in light of an end-time event.

Here is the gospel of salvation as presented in context of a Bible study on Revelations 13 (and other related Bible texts):

It’s about the Book of Life in which the names of all the saints are written (vs 8)
It’s about The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world to redeem fallen man (vs 8) It’s about the saints who are being opposed for their acceptance of salvation (vs 7)
It’s about the issue of worship involving a choice between God and the beast (vs 4, 8; 14:6)
It’s about deception around the issue of salvation to prevent people from being saved (vs 11-15)
It’s about the loyalty to God being tested (vs 10; 14:12)
It’s about the dragon (Satan) severely tempting the saints to give up their faith in Christ (12:17)
Its about obedience to the commandments of God (12:17; 14:12)

In your Bible study on Revelations 13 you will realize that it is not merely a dry account of an impending event void of eternal significance. It is just impossible for anyone to make a presentation on this chapter without bringing out salvational issues.

If you go to the parallel prophecies of the book of Daniel you will see the succession of world kingdoms leading up to the setting up of the kingdom of God. But what salvation is really about besides the building up of the kingdom of God? As Christians we are considered candidates for citizenship of this kingdom. And if you want to see salvational issues and end-time prophecies in a beautiful blend, go to the Minor Prophets!

When I hear some Christians trying to separate the prophecies from the gospel of salvation, I get the impression from some of their remarks that they are merely responding to the shame of not understanding the prophecies as they aught; or they are just speaking out of fear of the great tribulation that is predicted in the prophetic word. Many are going to realize the importance of a Bible study on Revelations when they see the vast majority selling out their souls to the Devil by receiving the mark of the beast. Millions who profess Christianity today are going to embrace the new religious order as if they have never been warned!

Anybody who, having received a Bible study on Revelations, doesn’t feel obligated to change their way of life simply does not understand the gospel at best, or at worst, he is resigned to the pleasures of this world!

In your Bible study on Revelations, you will see where in the very first chapter the Lord promises a blessing for those who read and understand the words of the prophecies of Revelations (Rev. 1:3). He could not have so encouraged us in such an endeavour if it has nothing to do with our salvation. And this goes to show how this view make God appears to be working at cross purposes with Himself. Therefore, let us seek for that eternal blessing that awaits us by earnestly pursuing a better understanding of the book of Revelations.

Bible Study on Revelations 19 – Analyzing End-Time Events Leading Up to the Second Coming of Christ

The Second Advent of Christ in the Book of Revelations represents the consummation of all things. According to the parallel prophecies of Daniel 2, 7, and 8, it will be the main event where the succession of world kingdoms culminates. In your Bible study on Revelations 19, you will clearly see the fulfillment of Matthew 24, Isaiah 25, and Psalms 50, among a long list of prophecies that deal with this subject.

This is where Christ in His capacity as King of kings and Lord of lords will exercise his authority over the inhabitants of the earth; according to the scriptures, He will rule them with a rod of iron (Ps. 110; Rev. 19:15).

The interesting thing about my analysis of this subject in my Bible study on Revelations 19 is that when I coordinate Old Testament Bible texts that deal with last-day issues leading up to the Coming Kingdom, it helps me to get a better understanding of the real issue that is brought to the fore in Revelations 13. Indeed, I realized that you cannot fully understand this mark-of-the-beast issue unless you filter it through a process of scripture comparison both within the book of Revelations and the writings of other prophets on the different issues connected to the Second Coming.

In your Bible study on Revelations 19 the Second Coming of Christ is not to be divorced from other end-time prophecies. When you compare what John says in Revelation with the predictions of other Bible writers you will find a similarity of stories but with more or less details. In some cases, you will see descriptions of a particular scenario that is almost word-for-word synonymous to descriptions in the Book of Revelations. E.g. A Bible study on Revelations 17 will reveal descriptions of Mystery Babylon which happens to be almost identical to those of ancient Babylon found in the book of Jeremiah. The prophecies of Revelation are often presented in Old Testament idioms and imagery and we must always observe their usages and allow them to enhance our understanding of some of the more difficult passages in Revelation.

There are also descriptions in Revelations 19 which are mirrored in Psalms 110; they both speak of the destruction of kings at the coming of Christ. In your Bible study on Revelations 19 you need to closely observe the different points of interest, all of which are paralleled in the writings of other prophets. Below, I have outlined four main points of interest surrounding the Second Coming in Revelation 19. Beside each point I will give corresponding Bible texts from the testimonies of other Bible writers:

• The gathering of the forces of the earth against the King of kings. (compare Rev. 19:19 with Ps. 2)

• The false prophet (the lamb-horned beast) uses miracles to deceive the world and cause the people to take the mark of the beast and worship his image (compare Rev. 19:20 with Matt. 24:24)

• The beast and the false prophet will be captured and subsequently destroyed for their role in causing the people to lose their souls by embracing this new religious order. (compare Rev. 19:20 with 2Thess. 2:8; 2Pet. 2:1; Dan. 8:23-25)

• The rest of the people will be destroyed by the ‘sword’ of Christ’s mouth and eaten by scavenger birds (compare Rev. 19:17-18, 21 with Lk 17:35-37).

They are parallel prophecies both in the Old and New Testament which, when properly coordinated, give you a more precise idea of what is prophesied in Revelations. A thorough Bible study on Revelations 13-19 in connection with other predictions of events leading up to the Second Coming will provide you the means of understanding end-time prophecies from different angles.
